Short answer: the price gap is not a discount, it is a phone system. GoHighLevel's cheapest plan that holds more than three client accounts is $297 a month. Systeme.io lists unlimited sub-accounts on all four of its plans, including the $0 one, and its first paid tier is $17 a month (both pricing pages, read 23 September 2026). If you bill clients for missed-call text-back, SMS follow-up and call tracking — and you want to charge that usage back to them — only HighLevel does that, and the $280 difference is what it costs. If you sell courses, funnels, email sequences and bookings, you will pay HighLevel $97 a month for a phone platform you never switch on.
This is a source roundup plus one live account, and the two are not the same. We run a real Systeme.io account, created 16 September 2026, so what we say about its free plan behaviour we saw ourselves. We have never opened a GoHighLevel account, trial or otherwise. Every HighLevel statement below is a vendor claim from a page we captured with its date. There is no rating on this page, because we have not run one of the two products. How we draw that line: how we test.
No free plan: $97, $297 or $497 a month after a 14-day trial; phone, SMS, email and AI bill separately (pricing page, 23 Sept 2026)

The number that decides it: what a client account costs
Both platforms let you keep each client in a separate account. They price that completely differently.
HighLevel calls them sub-accounts and sells them by the tier. Its pricing page on 23 September 2026 lists Starter at $97/month with "3 Sub-Accounts", Unlimited at $297/month with "Unlimited Sub-Accounts", and Agency Pro at $497/month. Its own FAQ puts it plainly: "The primary difference is the number of 'Sub-Accounts' you can manage."
Systeme.io's comparison table shows "Unlimited" in the sub-accounts row of every plan — Free, Startup $17, Webinar $47 and Unlimited $97. The tooltip next to that row says each sub-account "is a fully fledged systeme.io account with its own full set of limits... at no extra cost."
So the fourth client is the moment the two prices separate:
| Client accounts | Cheapest HighLevel plan | Cheapest Systeme.io plan |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | Starter, $97/mo | Free, $0 (or Startup $17 for the limits) |
| 4 | Unlimited, $297/mo | Free, $0 |
| 10 | Unlimited, $297/mo | Free, $0 |
| 25 | Unlimited, $297/mo | Free, $0 |
One honest caveat on that right-hand column, and it matters: we have not created a Systeme.io sub-account. Unlimited sub-accounts on Free is what the vendor's table and tooltip say, not something we measured. Everything else we report about that free account, we ran.
What the $280 actually buys
The gap is not padding. HighLevel's core feature list includes things Systeme.io does not sell at any price:
- Inbound and outbound calling, phone numbers, and call tracking. Systeme.io has no phone product. Its feature list is funnels, email, websites, affiliates, automation, courses, communities, a booking calendar, sub-accounts, physical products, SMS, pipelines, webinars, creator stores and white label — no calling anywhere.
- Rebilling usage to the client. HighLevel's help doc (modified 22 Aug 2026) describes an Agency Wallet: HighLevel charges the agency, then the agency charges the sub-account for the usage it generated. Systeme.io has no usage to rebill, because emails are unlimited and transaction fees are 0% on all four plans.
- SaaS Mode, which turns the platform into something you resell under your own name and price. That is Agency Pro, $497/month; we worked through its break-even separately in gohighlevel saas mode.
- A white-label mobile app — listed as a $497/month add-on on top of the plan. Systeme.io has a white-label offering but does not publish its price: its FAQ says to contact the team for it.
The reverse list is shorter but real. Systeme.io includes an affiliate program builder, courses, communities and evergreen webinars inside the plan price, with 0% transaction fees and unlimited email sends — and that free tier costs nothing and asks for no card.
The trap in HighLevel's $97 plan
This is the part the comparison posts usually miss, and it is the reason Starter is a worse deal than it looks for an agency.
HighLevel bills phone, SMS, emails sent and premium AI as usage on every plan. Its FAQ says so: "there are usage-based costs for telecommunications and AI services... charges for phone numbers, SMS (text messaging), emails sent, and premium AI usage."
But the ability to pass those costs to the client does not start on Starter. The help doc is specific: rebilling without markup is on the $297 and $497 plans, and rebilling with markup is on the $497 plan only. So on the $97 plan you carry your clients' phone and SMS bills yourself, out of your own margin.
Two more numbers from the same doc, worth putting in front of the decision. Email is $0.675 per 1,000 across all plans, so 50,000 emails a month is $33.75 on top of $97 — while Systeme.io's four plans all list emails sent as Unlimited at no extra charge. And HighLevel's own footer, sitting thousands of pixels below a hero that promises a free trial "before you pay a dime", reads: "Billing begins automatically at the end of any free trial unless canceled, and usage-based fees for telecommunications or third-party services may apply during the trial."
We check the plan gates before we recommend anything
The rebilling threshold above is the kind of thing that only shows up in a help doc. Subscribers get those checks as we run them, at most one email a week.
Plan cost per client account
Plan price divided by the client accounts it covers. Usage (phone, SMS, email, AI) is extra on every HighLevel plan and is not in this table.
| Clients | HighLevel plan | Per client | Systeme.io plan | Per client |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Starter $97 | $32.33 | Startup $17 | $5.67 |
| 5 | Unlimited $297 | $59.40 | Startup $17 | $3.40 |
| 10 | Unlimited $297 | $29.70 | Startup $17 | $1.70 |
| 20 | Unlimited $297 | $14.85 | Unlimited $97 | $4.85 |
The shape of it: HighLevel gets cheaper per client as you add clients, which is exactly what it is designed to do, and it only overtakes a per-client stack once you are billing for the phone side. Systeme.io starts cheap and stays cheap, because it is priced on contacts and funnels rather than on how many businesses you run.
If you are choosing between HighLevel's own three tiers rather than between platforms, the per-client arithmetic for each one is in our gohighlevel for consultants guide.

Where Systeme.io stops
Three limits we hit or read, so the cheap column is not sold to you as free money.
The free plan is one of everything. One automation rule, one tag, one email campaign, one custom domain, three funnels, 2,000 contacts. We built on it, and the second automation rule is where it ends. Startup at $17 lifts each of those ones to ten. The full walk-through of that wall is in our systeme.io free plan review, and the plan-by-plan version is in systeme io pricing.
Its own pricing page contradicts itself, still. On 23 September 2026 the FAQ ("Last updated: April 2026") said Startup gives "unlimited funnels" and described sub-accounts as an Unlimited-plan feature. The comparison table directly above it said Startup = 10 funnels and unlimited sub-accounts on every plan. We flagged the same contradiction on 20 September. Use the table — it is what our own plan screen agreed with.
Pipelines are capped even on the top plan. CRM pipelines run 1 / 5 / 20 / 100, so "Unlimited" at $97 is not unlimited everywhere. And on 16 September 2026 the campaigns and newsletters screens in our account never finished loading: 52 network requests on a fresh load, all of them the JavaScript bundle, zero data requests and zero console errors.
Who should pick which
Pick GoHighLevel if you bill clients for the phone side. Missed-call text-back, SMS sequences, call tracking, reputation requests over text — that is the product, and nothing in Systeme.io replaces it. Go in knowing two things: Starter's three sub-accounts run out at your fourth client, and rebilling does not start until $297, so budget the jump rather than being surprised by it.
Pick Systeme.io if the deliverable is funnels, email, courses and bookings. A coach, a course seller, a consultant with a landing page and a nurture sequence: the free tier costs nothing and takes no card, and $17 buys the headroom most single-operator businesses need for a year. The upgrade trigger is concrete — your second automation rule.
A note for the in-between case. If you run a handful of clients who each need funnels and email but not phone, Systeme.io's sub-accounts are the cheaper answer on paper and the one we would test first, precisely because testing it costs $0 and no card.
What we could not verify
- Anything about how HighLevel behaves once you are inside it. We have no account.
- Whether Systeme.io's unlimited sub-accounts work the way the tooltip describes. We have not created one.
- HighLevel's markup ceiling on rebilled usage. No multiplier or cap is published in the help docs we read.
- Systeme.io's white-label pricing. It is not on the pricing page.
Bottom line
Ask one question before you look at either price: do you get paid to run your clients' phone and text follow-up? If yes, GoHighLevel is the platform built for it, and the honest entry point is $297, not $97, because that is where billing usage back to clients begins. If no, the $80 a month between Starter and Systeme.io Startup — $960 a year — buys you a telephone system you will not plug in, and Systeme.io gives you the client accounts for free.
Starter covers 3 sub-accounts; rebilling usage to clients starts on Unlimited at $297 (help doc, 22 Aug 2026)
Startup $17/mo, or $170 a year — 2 months free on annual billing (systeme.io/pricing, 23 Sept 2026)
Frequently asked questions
Is Systeme.io cheaper than GoHighLevel?
Yes, by a wide margin at the entry point. On 23 September 2026 Systeme.io listed a $0 free plan and a $17 Startup plan, while GoHighLevel had no free plan and started at $97 a month after a 14-day trial.
Does Systeme.io have sub-accounts like GoHighLevel?
Its pricing table says yes, on every plan. On 23 September 2026 the sub-accounts row read "Unlimited" for Free, Startup, Webinar and Unlimited. GoHighLevel gives 3 sub-accounts on Starter and unlimited from $297. We have not created a Systeme.io sub-account ourselves.
Can you rebill clients on GoHighLevel’s $97 plan?
No. HighLevel’s help doc (modified 22 August 2026) says rebilling without markup is on the $297 and $497 plans, and rebilling with markup is on the $497 plan only. On Starter you pay your clients’ phone, SMS and email usage yourself.
Does GoHighLevel have a free plan?
No. On 23 September 2026 the pricing page offered a 14-day free trial on Starter, Unlimited and Agency Pro, and its footer said billing begins automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel.
Can Systeme.io send SMS?
Its pricing table marks SMS as included on all four plans, and lists a Twilio SMS integration (23 September 2026). It has no phone numbers and no inbound or outbound calling, which GoHighLevel lists as core features.
Is Systeme.io a good GoHighLevel alternative for a solo coach?
For funnels, email, courses and bookings, yes: the free plan takes no card and Startup is $17 a month. It is not an alternative if you are paid to run missed-call text-back or SMS follow-up for clients.
What does GoHighLevel charge on top of the plan price?
Usage. Its FAQ names phone numbers, SMS, emails sent and premium AI, and its help doc prices email at $0.675 per 1,000 across all plans. Systeme.io lists unlimited email sends and 0% transaction fees on all four plans.
